The town was established in 1876 with the formation of Kimble County. Today, camping, fishing, canoeing and hunting are popular. The area has more flowing streams than any other Texas county and year-round fishing. Hunters find turkey, deer and game birds during season, and squirrels throughout the year. Schreiner Park has free overnight camping.
