The refuge, open for day use only, focuses on preserving two nesting habitats. The golden-cheeked warbler may be seen on hiking trails at Warbler Vista and Doeskin Ranch. The black-capped vireo may be seen at Shin Oak Observation Deck--excluding the end of March through mid-April to allow vireos to set up nesting territories.
The deck and Doeskin Ranch are closed for four weekends from mid-November-mid-December during hunting season. Call prior to visiting for exact dates.
From U.S. 183, take F.M. 1869 approximately nine miles to the observation deck; Warbler Vista is west of Lago Vista on R.M. 1431.
