Fort Martin Scott

This is the site of the first federal frontier fort established in Texas in 1848. With a treaty between German settlers and the Comanches, the fort became a center of commerce. The fort, with 21 buildings, closed in 1853. The only original structure still standing is the post guardhouse, now restored. Self-guided tour.
