The site features historic buildings, including the Stinson House—the family
home of Sallie Stinson, who married Jim Hogg before he became Texas' 20th
governor. The home is only open during special events and by appointment by
calling the Friends of the Arboretum president 903/466-4327. Also on site is the
Hogg's first home, affectionately known as the "Honeymoon Cottage." The home was
constructed of heart pine. Ima Hogg, daughter to Jim and Sallie, had the home
relocated to the park and fully restored. It is not open to the public but is a
popular backdrop for photos.
The Governor Hogg Park Arboretum and Botanical gardens includes 23 acres of
gardens and walking trails. The Old Settlers Nature Trail has 23 stops and four
foot bridges along a half-mile trail. In addition, find perennial gardens,
azaleas, bog gardens and a children's sensory garden, which is under
development. The park includes Old Settlers Tabernacle, available by reservation
for large gatherings, as well as picnic sites and a children's playground. The
City RV Park has 18 full hook-up sites.
Open daily. Park closes to visitors at 10 p.m. 518 Main St. (Texas 37).
