Featured Attraction

Austin's street lighting system began in 1895 when the first of the original 31 towers was mounted. From a height of 165 feet, a cluster of six carbon arc lamps (now mercury vapor) casts a glow over a radius of 3,000 feet. Only 17 towers remain, and Austin is the only U.S. city with a tower system still intact. For locations: 866/GO-AUSTIN.
