Shelby County Museum

Shelby County, one of the original counties in the Republic of Texas, is rich in history. The museum is filled with historical items from bearskins and bottles to spinning wheels and war bonnets. Open 1–4 p.m. Mon.–Fri. In the historic 1905 Weaver-Oates home at Thomas and Pecan streets, one block off the square. 936/598-3613.

This Lone Star legend celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011 with a $10 million renovation to revamp an old favorite, The Texas Giant wooden roller coaster. The ride now stands 10 feet taller, peaking at 153 feet before plunging down a new 79-degree drop and through numerous turns at 65 mph. Thrill seekers also can take on the Superman Tower of Power, which catapults riders skyward and blasts them back to earth at speeds of up to 50 mph.

The Titan continues to reign as the largest steel roller coaster in the Southwest, running more than a mile at speeds up to 85 mph. The computer-animated "Robots From Mars," ride takes guests on a journey to help mechanical misfits defeat the evil Supervisor of Mars and save the universe. Guests can also test their music and entertainment knowledge at Dick Clark's Face the Music interactive trivia show. For younger guests, Looney Tunes USA offers Wile E.
