Shangri La Botanical Gardens And Nature Center

In the formal gardens, more than 300 plant species paint beautiful landscapes among a series of theme-based garden rooms. The Nature Center includes Adams Bayou boat excursions to educational outposts, a 15-acre beaver pond, state-of-the-art bird blind, bat house and more up-close encounters with nature. This is the first project in Texas and 50th in the world to earn the U.S. Green Building Council's Platinum certification for LEED®-NC. Exhibits include more than 140 mounts in the William A. Bond Game Trophy Room; archaeological exhibit and Native American artifacts in the Berry Room; a history of ranching in North Texas in the Waggoner Room, including work of sculptor Electra Waggoner Biggs; a 10-foot by 20-foot mural by Adrian Martinez depicting the history of the Waggoner Ranch empire; an original sculpture by Frederick Remington; an original watercolor by C.M. Russell; and a trombone of native son and jazz musician Jack Teagarden.
