Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery

Dating from the frontier era, this site is the resting place of scouts who were descendants of the slaves stolen from plantations by Florida Seminoles. Moved to Oklahoma after the Seminole War, many scouts migrated toward Mexico. The Army hired 150 as scouts to follow trails of raiding tribes. A group settled in Brackettville around Fort Clark. Descendants remain as farmers and ranchers, and they maintain an old cemetery on a county road about three miles south. Graves include four Medal of Honor winners. Located just west of town on F.M. 693 and then south.
