A branch of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, this 28-room Latin Colonial
structure was home to the late Ima Hogg, daughter of James Stephen Hogg, first
native-born governor of Texas. The collection consists of more than 4,800 works
from the colonial period to the early 19th century, including furniture,
paintings, metals, ceramics, glass and textiles. The gardens consist of 14 acres
bounded on three sides by Buffalo Bayou. The Lora Jean Kilroy Visitors and
Education Center, a contemporary 18,000-square-foot building, opened in late
September 2010 with a library, retail shop, meeting space and public
terraces—all dedicated to American art, culture and history. Gardens are open
1–5 p.m. Sat.–Sun., other times by appointment. Admission charge. 1 Westcott St.
