Retama Park

Located on 226 acres, this racetrack opened for live racing in 1995. Features quarter horse and thoroughbred races. Grandstand has both open-air and air-conditioned levels with food courts, restaurants and bars. Retama Park is South Texas' only Class-A horsetrack. Opens at 10:30 a.m. daily. Post time for races is 6:45 p.m. Admission charge. 1 Retama Parkway. Exit 174-A off I-35. 210/651-7000. www.retamapark.com.

Museum honors Texas state troopers. The Hall of Fame tells the stories of officers killed in the line of duty. Exhibit honors the Medal of Valor recipients. Other presentations include Texas Highway Patrol artifacts. Visitors learn about the day-to-day duties of a state trooper and how they must react when faced with danger. Open 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tue.–Sun.
