Site where two famous Native American battles were fought. Col. Kit Carson (in his last fight) and his U.S. troops in 1864 narrowly escaped defeat by Kiowa and Comanche tribes who had been attacking wagon trains and settlers. Ten years later, in 1874, Native Americans under Quanah Parker and Lone Wolf attacked a buffalo hunters' camp at the second battle of Adobe Walls near the first site. Marker was erected by the state in 1936 at a Texas 207 roadside park, six miles north of Borger and about 15 miles from site of the battle, which is on private ranch lands.
