Some traces remain of Fort Anahuac, a combination Mexican fort and
customhouse on Galveston Bay near the mouth of the Trinity River. It was built
about 1831 by prisoners of the Mexican government. In one of the preliminary
battles of Texas Revolution, it was captured by William B. Travis—later
commander of the Alamo. Park offers picnicking, camping, rest rooms, boat ramp.
