Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg

Pioneer Museum

Centers on an eight-room furnished pioneer home and store, built in 1849. The site also features a wine cellar and stein-hof (stone yard), a Victorian-style home, barn and blacksmith shop, smokehouse, an authentic Sunday House, log cabin, wagon shed, one-room school house and a fire museum with early Fredericksburg fire-fighting equipment. Open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. Closed Mon. weekend after Labor Day–weekend before Memorial Day, except holidays. Admission charge. 325 W. Main St. 830/997-2835, 830/990-8441. www.pioneermuseum.net.

Includes rustic stone bridges and winding walks, gleaming pools and a Japanese Tea Garden. On occasion, the Sunken Gardens Theater presents entertainment. The Brackenridge Eagle miniature train offers a 3.5-mile ride around the park. Numerous picnic spots. Adjacent to the San Antonio Zoo, Witte Museum, Brackenridge Golf Course and Pioneer Hall Museum.
