Old Opera House

Built in 1904, this structure was the town's cultural and social center that also housed a bank. Later used as store, school, post office and hotel. Closed in 1960, reopened in 1976 to house a bank and opera house. The next year, it was restored and purchased by Miles Preservation Authority. Listed on National Register of Historic Buildings. Antiques, handicrafts and foods available on first floor. Open 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Mon.–Fri. Robinson Street. (F.M. 1692) at Second Street.

Featured Attraction

On the San Antonio River in the King William Historic District, the homestead was built in 1876 by Edward Steves, who immigrated to Texas in 1848 and later founded the Steves Lumber Company. The Victorian-era mansion also features a carriage house with antique carriages on display, the gardener's quarters (now a visitor center) and beautiful landscaping. Operated by the San Antonio Conservation Society. Open 10 a.m.–4:15 p.m. daily. 509 King William St. 210/225-5924.
