On more than 42,000 acres along Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, this is a nesting
area for mottled ducks and wintering grounds of snow geese. The Freeport
Christmas Bird Count is always one of highest in nation—usually more than 200
species. Access by boat for fishing, crabbing, oystering (permitted in public
waters) and waterfowl hunting in specified areas. Six-mile self-guided auto tour
