When Lake Belton overflowed its spillway in 1992, the water carved out a huge
canyon and created a wetlands area. This is preserved as a natural area offering
hiking, bird-watching and wildlife photography opportunities. The Miracle Mile,
a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk trail, allows visitors to view the wetlands
and the restored native prairie below. Open dawn–dusk. From I-35, take Texas 36
north to F.M. 2305, then to the north side of dam on F.M. 2271.
