Texas statesman Sam Rayburn was one of the most powerful and influential U.S.
politicians in the 20th century, serving 24 terms in the U.S. House of
Representatives and as speaker of the house for 17 nonconsecutive terms. A 1930s
radio, photos of Franklin Roosevelt, period china and other Rayburn family
treasures adorn the 1916 house and grounds. Outside, see his 1947 Cadillac (a
gift from 142 congressmen at the end of his first term as speaker of the house),
a historic smokehouse, barn and garage. Texas Historical Commission property.
Open 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Tue.–Sun. Admission charge. 890 W. Texas 56. 903/583-5558.
