Featured Attraction

—The Inn opened in 1906 as the Point Isabel Tarpon & Fishing Club to serve travelers on the Rio Grande Railroad. As the Point's first and only hotel for more than 20 years, it was the site for many significant events in the town's history, including President-elect Warren Harding's vacation in November 1920. It also was the birthplace and headquarters for the Rio Grande Valley Fishing Rodeo started in 1934 by the hotel's manager, Dr. J.A. Hockaday. The rodeo is now the Texas International Fishing Tournament. Hurricanes in 1933 and 1967 changed some of the building's exterior features. Storms, modernization and ownership are reasons for some floor and hotel name changes during the past 90 years. 300 Garcia St. 956/943-1468.
