Housed in the historic Charles Champion building, the museum shares its
grounds with a water well used by Zachary Taylor's troops when Port Isabel
served as a supply depot during the U.S./Mexican War. Built at the turn of the
century, the structure served as a general store, post office and railroad
depot. At one time, it housed the only telephone in town. It is nationally known
for its fish mural painted in 1906. Exhibits include hands-on displays,
audiovisual film interactives, original artifacts, rare documents and vintage
photographs that tell the story of Port Isabel and area. Open 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
