The preserve consists of 105,000 acres in 15 units spread across seven
counties. Several major biological zones combine, including southeastern swamps,
eastern forests, central plains, coastal prairies and southwestern deserts,
creating unusual combinations of ecosystems and incredible biodiversity. Some of
the rare and unusual plant life includes many species of orchids and four
species of insect-eating plants. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. every day, except
Thanksgiving, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Visitor center is at 6102 F.M. 420, about
