The "new" church was completed in 1870. One hundred years later, in 1970, it became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark for its architectural and historical significance. It features tall stained-glass windows and its original wood altars, statues and pews. Nearby still stands a tiny chapel built as the first community project of the Alsatian pioneers. The chapel is on grounds of the Moye Retreat Center, former convent of the Sisters of Divine Providence. St. Louis Day church festival is celebrated yearly, usually on the Sunday closest to Aug. 25. Visitors welcome. Angelo and Madrid streets.
