The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

Heritage Museum

Once home to pioneer Dora Roberts, this museum was organized in 1971, and renovations were completed in 1992. Permanent exhibits tell the story of Big Spring's diverse history. Displays range from early Native American life to the oil industry in West Texas. A gallery displays the work of local artists and traveling exhibits from around the country. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Fri. and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sat. Admission charge. 510 Scurry. 432/267-8255. www.bigspringmuseum.com.

Potton House is a restored Victorian home of Joseph Potton family, circa 1901. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and features early 1900s architecture and furnishings. Open 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Tue.–Fri. Admission charge. Second Street and Gregg. 432/267-8255.

Features the work of the late Russian American post impressionist, Leo Michelson. The museum also displays the Gloria and Bernard Kronenberg Collection of early 20th-century artists, such as Abraham Walkowitz, David Burliuk and Milton Avery, as well as the Ramona and Jay Ward Collection of rare African Masks.
