Heritage House

Built in 1927 to serve as home for the president of the university, the house has been restored to its original colonial-style elegance with many furnishings and artifacts from former presidents' families. The red brick-veneer home is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The adjoining Lyday Heritage Gardens were dedicated in 2001 and feature antique roses and shaded teakwood benches. Open for tours and small receptions. Open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri. On Texas A&M–Commerce campus. 903/886-5712.

This facility features a wealth of historical miscellany from town, including antique furniture, household items, clothing, china, glassware and historical documents. A livery stable has wagons, buggies, vintage tack, farm implements and more. Self-guided walking and driving tours of the city also are available here.
