A Nature Conservancy of Texas Preserve of 5,654 acres, the sanctuary harbors
upland and wetland forest communities along 8.5 miles of Village Creek. Forested
communities include arid, sandy uplands with prickly pear cactus, yucca and
longleaf pine. It is an American Bird Conservancy Globally Important Bird Area
and Site 17 of the Upper Coast region of the Great Texas Birding Trail. More
than 120 species of birds have been spotted here. Six miles of nature trails
offer hiking, photography and nature study opportunities. A self-guiding
interpretive trail guide is available for a.8-mile section of the trail system.
