D.I.S.D. Environmental Learning Center

The Dallas Independent School District Learning Center has more than 500 acres to explore through guided activities featuring world ecosystems, animal and plant facts, and pond habitats. There also is a working barn with a variety of livestock, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds, as well as a fossil collection and a large area of native Texas plants. Three nature trails are open daily. 1600 Bowers Road. 972/749-6900.

This was originally built in 1930 as a residence for former Prairie View school district teachers and the principal's family. The school district was renamed Bridge City. Former teachers and students have donated items. Museum includes memorabilia on the city's growth. The building also houses the chamber of commerce office. Open 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Mon.–Fri. 150 W. Roundbunch Road. 409/735-5671.
