Copano Bay State Fishing Pier

A former highway causeway across the bay north of Rockport is now two excellent fishing piers administered by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Piers extend from the north and south sides (not connected)—the total length of both are more than 1.5 miles. Concessions are on both sides. Public boat ramp is on the south side. Use charge. Near the present Texas 35 causeway. 361/729-6445.

Texas statesman Sam Rayburn was one of the most powerful and influential U.S. politicians in the 20th century, serving 24 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and as speaker of the house for 17 nonconsecutive terms. A 1930s radio, photos of Franklin Roosevelt, period china and other Rayburn family treasures adorn the 1916 house and grounds. Outside, see his 1947 Cadillac (a gift from 142 congressmen at the end of his first term as speaker of the house), a historic smokehouse, barn and garage. Texas Historical Commission property.
