This log structure inn was built in 1834, before the Republic of Texas era. It features nine rooms, a barn and cemetery typical of early Texas inns hosting travelers arriving by stagecoach. It has been authentically restored and furnished to look as it would have in the early 1830s, when key figures such as Texas Presidents Sam Houston and Anson Jones, future Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson stayed here. A full-size replica of an 1850s Red Concord stagecoach is available for rides one Saturday per month (fee). Open for tours 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Sat.–Sun. On Main Street, south of the courthouse. 936/873-2633, 800/792-1112. www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/fanthorp_inn.
