A gift to the state by Galveston philanthropist Henry Rosenberg, it
commemorates the great achievements of the men and women of Texas. Erected in
1900, it is 74 feet high and 34 feet square, with four monolithic granite
columns rising to support a 22-foot bronze figure of "Victory." At the
