This community, settled by German Wends, is six miles south on F.M. 2239. St.
Paul's Lutheran Church—one of the area's famous "painted churches"—was built in
1870 and features hand-painted marble accents. The pulpit, in the upper level of
church, is the tallest in Texas. 1578 C.R. 211.
The Wendish Museum is a collection of memorabilia depicting the life of these
ethnically unique people. Outside exhibits include a Wendish pioneer log cabin,
part of an dogtrot house and farming equipment. Open 1–5 p.m. Tue.–Sun. 1011
C.R. 212, north of St. Paul Lutheran Church and adjacent to the Wendish
