Bloomfield Schoolhouse

This one-room 1883 schoolhouse spent its first 93 years in a pasture. The building was moved in 1976 to Denton, then to its current location in Pilot Point in 1993. It is one of very few remaining one-room school buildings and is now dedicated to offering living history and educational experiences. One block off the historic square on South Washington Street. Open April–Oct. 1–3 p.m. Sat. or by appointment. Closed holidays. 940/686-5385, 940/686-2165.

Featured Attraction

Artifacts from the early days of Sealy and Austin County are displayed, including some from when the town was part of San Felipe de Austin, the colonial capital of Texas. There also is a collection of memorabilia from Huey Long, one of the original Ink Spots. His guitar, personal photos and other items are displayed. In the complex is the old Sealy jail, an original settler's prairie home and a work caboose from the railroad. Open 10 a.m.–3 p.m. the fourth Friday of the month, other times by appointment by calling 979/885-7431. Admission charge. At Main and Silliman streets. 979/885-3222.
