Bartlett Area Museum

Housed in the Bartlett Activities Center, formerly a grammar school building built in 1909 and used as a public school until 1988, now a restored Central Texas landmark. The museum houses a World War I exhibit, antiques and artifacts from the town's early history. Open 1–4 p.m. the fourth Sunday of each month. Free. 300 W. Bell St.

Featured Attraction

This 32-acre Harris County park overlooks Galveston Bay. Recent renourishment project resulted in lovely sandy beaches. The park also offers a fishing pier, boat ramp, playground and picnic areas. Near the park entrance, a caboose and depot from the old Houston-Galveston-San Antonio railroad serve as the showcase museum for the La Porte-Bay Area Heritage Society's collection of memorabilia. 281/326-6539, 281/471-1661.
