American Wind Power Center in Lubbock

American Wind Power Center

This museum features the American-style water-pumping windmills. On 28 acres in Yellow House Canyon. More than 150 rare and fully restored windmills are on display in an interpretive center and on the grounds. Exhibits also include hand pumps, models, photographs and other windmill artifacts. Center tells the story of how the windmill settled the West, giving access to underground water on land where there were no rivers, streams or lakes. Includes museum store. Featured Attraction

This facility, a division of the Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin, contains exhibits that detail Sam Rayburn's life and career. The collection includes photo, original letters, political cartoons, art, furniture, an exact replica of the office he worked in as speaker of the house, personal memorabilia and his personal library of books. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri. and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sat. On a 4.3-acre tract four blocks from downtown at 800 West Sam Rayburn Drive.
