The Texas Zoo

On six acres in Riverside Park, the zoo provides an opportunity to see more than 150 animals native to the state, as well as other exotic animals from all over the world. Spacious, outdoor moat-enclosed areas exhibit a variety of animals in natural environmental settings. The Animal Kingdom building provides a majestic array of reptiles, birds and small mammals. Guests can interact with animals in the petting zoo and learn about conservation through education programs. The Texas Zoo was proclaimed the "National Zoo of Texas" in June 1984 by a Texas House and Senate Resolution. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily; closed Dec. 24–25 and New Year's Day. Admission charge. 110 Memorial. 361/573-7681. www.texaszoo.org.
