Featured Attraction

In the nearby Czech village of Praha, this modest frame church dates from 1895, making it one of the oldest of the state's famous "painted churches." Features include remarkable tongue-in-groove planks soaring to a classic vault, wooden pillars representing Gothic columns, Art Nouveau-style paintings and mock architectural details. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 821 F.M. 1295.

The adjacent cemetery is the site of an annual Veterans Day memorial service in November, said to be the most attended in the United States. Nine graves honor Praha youth who fell in World War II—a heavy toll for one sparsely populated, rural Texas community. Take U.S. 90 2.7 miles east to F.M. 1295, then south eight miles.
