Railroad Historical Park And Museum

Features old Union Pacific and Missouri, Kansas and Texas ("Katy") cabooses, photographs, railroad memorabilia and a vintage motor car. The museum depicts the history of the railroad in Smithville. Katy Depot is constructed from materials salvaged from the former station built in the 1890s. The park's gazebo is topped by a cupola from the 1896 city hall. Park with picnic tables and playground is open daily. Open 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Mon.–Fri. Admission charge for museum. 100 N.W. First St., in the chamber of commerce building. 512/237-2313.

Featured Attraction

The city's first fire truck, purchased in 1948, is the centerpiece of this museum. The 1923 American La France fire truck was used by the City of Dallas first, then the City of Worth. Fully restored, the truck is dedicated to the volunteer firefighters of the community. At the corner of Main and Oak streets. 817/491-6090.
