Old Cora

Texas' oldest existing courthouse was built in the town of Cora, then the county seat, in 1856. When the county was partitioned in 1859, Comanche became the new county seat, and the building was relocated to the southwest corner of town square.

Workers restoring the park area around Old Cora discovered a water well hand-dug in 1859 for the courthouse and public use. As part of a beautification project, the well is lighted so visitors can view the inside through a clear covering to see how the sides are built and the water in the bottom.
