Operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the area consists of
15,200 acres of brush country that is typical of the Rio Grande Plains
ecological area in South Texas. Chaparral offers driving trails, nature trails
and bird watching along with mammals, amphibians and reptiles to discover.
Primitive camping facilities available. Open April–Aug. (closed Sept.–March for
hunting season). Southeast of town on U.S. 83 and F.M. 133 in Artesia Wells. PO
