Moore Home

Home built in 1883 by John M. Moore for his bride, Lottie Dyer. The neoclassical home—built by architect Thomas Culshaw, a native of Liverpool, England—was remodeled in 1905 from its original Victorian design. A tour is available through the Fort Bend Museum. 500 Houston St., on grounds of Fort Bend Museum.

Built in 1912, this historic Santa Fe Railroad and Fred Harvey landmark is owned by the Slaton Railroad Heritage Association. The building, which received a Texas Historical Commission marker, is an example of Mission Revival architecture. Its location—the railroad district near the Slaton Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad depot—makes it a good spot for looking at trains close up. Also serves as public event center and a bed-and-breakfast. Open for tours 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Thu.–Sat. Donation suggested for tours. 400 Railroad Ave. 806/828-5900.
