Million Barrel Museum

Built in 1928 as an oil-storage facility, the huge tank was abandoned because of leakage. Converted in 1987 to a museum, it features the relocated and restored Holman House, which served as a hotel at the terminus of Monahans-Fort Stockton Stage Line early in the 20th century, plus period furnishings. Site includes the first Ward County jail, antique oil field equipment display and an amphitheater. The museum features hands-on experience for all ages. With its walk-through design of the human body, the facility gives visitors a chance to understand the body's inner workings and how one area influences the next. The museum also has changing exhibits throughout the year. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Sat. and noon–5 p.m. Sun. Admission charge. 1515 Hermann Drive. 713/521-1515.
