Medina County Museum

Museum complex includes a one-room schoolhouse, buggy and farm equipment shed, a D'Hanis brick building, Southern Pacific caboose, and the main museum building housed in the 1893 Southern Pacific Hondo Depot. More than 2,000 items are on display from the frontier beginnings of Medina County to World War II. Open 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sat. and 1–4 p.m. Sun., summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day) 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wed.–Sat. and 1–4 p.m. Sun. 2202 18th St. 830/741-2105.

One of the last freshwater wetlands in the Greater Houston area, where natural conservation, recreation and education flourish. The 2,800-acre park, including the 1,200-acre Sheldon Reservoir, is a haven for birders and anglers alike. Trails meander around 28 different ponds, offering fishing for children and picnicking.
