This 109,000-square-foot facility features Western and American art. It was
first opened to house Amon G. Carter Sr.'s collection of 400 paintings, drawings
and works of sculpture by Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. The museum
has gradually expanded to include works from a vast array of artists, from
Frederic Edwin Church to Georgia O'Keeffe. The American photography collection,
one of the largest in the country, began in 1961 with Dorthea Lange's portrait
of Charles M. Russell and now includes works by Matthew Brady, Man Ray, Alfred
Stieglitz and Paul Strand. In the Cultural District. Open 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
