This typical frontier military post was established in 1858 as Camp Stockton
and abandoned in 1886. The fort consisted of 35 buildings made of adobe and
hand-hewn limestone. The remaining original buildings include three of the eight
officers' quarters, guardhouse with jailer's quarters, three solitary
confinement cells and a larger holding cell. Some of the other buildings have
been reconstructed. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. Admission charge. 300 E. Third.
