Hubbard Museum

Contains memorabilia of the city's old buildings and businesses since 1889. Displays include photos and documents, as well as an exhibit on Tris Speaker, the late and great baseball player born and buried in Hubbard. Speaker was the first Texan to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and also inducted in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Museum in renovated Historic Hubbard High School. Open 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wed. and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sat. 304 N.W. Sixth St. 254/576-2527.

Featured Attraction

With an emphasis on Texas and Southwestern history, the museum features the collection and historical research of J. Evetts Haley, acknowledged dean of range-country historians. Nearly 30,000 items in the collection include displays, volumes and papers on all facets of early Western life, especially the cowboy and range cattle industry. It also contains extensive collections on Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War. Among the historical relics is the original Alamo mission bell, cast in 1722. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri.
