Bankhead Highway Visitor Center

The center is housed in the 1868 home of Henry Clay Thruston, the tallest soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War (listed at 7 feet, 7.5 inches tall), along the historic Bankhead Highway. A major restoration project opened in 2003. Also offers quilting demonstrations. Open 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tue. and Thu., and other times by appointment. C.R. 1010 west of Texas 37. 903/537-4760.
