Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum & Visitors Center

No American athlete was more versatile than Beaumont's Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias (1914–56): three-time basketball All-American, three-time Olympic gold medalist and world-class pioneering female golfer. Exhibits include trophies and memorabilia. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. 1750 I-10 and MLK Parkway, Exit 854. 409/833-4622, 800/392-4401.

Featured Attraction

The old two-story 1906 brick depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now a museum with varied relics from the golden age of railroads, plus county historical items. Also on the site is the Col. B.A. Philpott log house, which was built in the early 1850s and features period furnishings. Col. Philpott served with the Confederate Army during the Civil War and returned to Freestone County. Open 1–5 p.m. Sat.–Sun. Admission charge. 208 S. Third Ave. www.therailroadmuseum.com.
