USS Lexington Museum on the Bay in Corpus Christi
Photographer: J. Griffis Smith

USS Lexington Museum on the Bay

Despite repeated attacks during World War II, the USS Lexington never sank, prompting Tokyo Rose to dub the aircraft carrier "The Blue Ghost."

Today, the carrier is known as the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay. It is a National Historic Landmark with a permanent home on Corpus Christi Beach along the bayfront of downtown Corpus Christi.

The sights and sounds are so real and intense that visitors become part of the story the moment they climb aboard. The new Virtual Battle Stations provide a truly interactive experience that thrusts the participant into the chaos and grit that was World War II. There is a flight simulator that launches visitors into combat. Around every corner and down every tunnel, an adventure unfolds.

Admission includes a choice of one large format movie filmed in IMAX and projected in the MEGA Theater. Open daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Labor Day to Memorial Day and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Memorial Day to Labor Day. Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Admission fee. Ticket sales end 30 minutes before closing for the day. Personal tours available for a fee. Reduced rates for groups of 10 or more. Adjacent to aquarium, 2914 N. Shoreline Blvd. (Surfside Exit from U.S. 181). 361/888-4873 , 800/LADY-LEX. www.usslexington.com.
