Featured Activity
Housed in the historic Charles Champion building, the museum shares its grounds with a water well used by Zachary Taylor's troops when Port Isabel served as a supply depot during the U.S./Mexican War. Built at the turn of the century, the structure served as a general store, post office, railroad depot, and at one time, the source of the only telephone in town. Nationally known for its fish mural painted in 1906. Exhibits include hands-on displays, audiovisual film interactives, original artifacts, rare documents and vintage photographs that tell the story of Port Isabel and area. Open Tue.–Sat. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Admission fee. 317 Railroad Ave. 956/943-7602.
