Earle-Harrison House & Pape Gardens

One of state's finest antebellum Greek Revival houses, built in 1858–59 by Dr. and Mrs. Baylis Wood Earle. Mrs. Earle sold the mansion in 1872 to her brother, Gen. Thomas Harrison, one of Waco's six Confederate generals. House is constructed of East Texas cypress and plantation-made brick. Detached kitchen is the repository of the Gov. Pat M. Neff kitchen collection. Gardens include 5.82 acres of mature trees, flowers and rare double gazebo. Call for hours. Admission fee. 1901 North 5th St. 254/753-2032. www.earleharrison.com.
