Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site near Alto

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site

More than 1,200 years ago, a group of Caddo Indians, known as Hasinai, built a village and burial mounds 25 miles outside present-day Nacogdoches. Discover the everyday life of the Caddo people through exhibits and displays; view the three remaining earthen mounds that were used for burials, temples and religious ceremonies; and uncover the mystery of this ancient site.
