Apache Trading Post

Rustic log cabin and gift shop features Big Bend collectibles, books on the history and geology of the Big Bend, Mexico, and Indian heritage. It houses the largest selection of topographic maps and three-dimensional relief maps highlighting the mountains of West Texas.

Find out about the mysterious Marfa Lights in an eight-minute video shown continuously in the "Stars of Texas" room, filled with movie posters of films shot in the area, including "Giant." Featured Activity

Includes the Charles Goodnight Hall, which recounts the establishment of JA Ranch and the protection of the southern herd of the American bison; a Hall of Honor for Armstrong County servicemen; and a booth honoring the Boy Scouts. Works from regional artists are also on display. Next door, the Gem Theater is used for educational and entertainment programs. The campus also includes a one-room schoolhouse, a cowboy line shack and historic windmill. Newest additions include a wing about JA Ranch and the offsite Charles Goodnight House (12 miles east of Claude) that is being restored to circa 1912.
